The name of Solomon Mykhoels, whom Moscow International Art Festival is named after, became the symbol of up and down of Jewish Culture in Russia.
More than 50 years ago the Actor of genius, director and public figure fell victim to Stalin’s tyranny. Mykhoels’ death - is only one of the many acts of the terrible “Shakespeare’s tragedy”, of which Mykhoels became the witness, the participant and victim.
The Festival is our tribute to Artist, whose unique craftsmanship was appreciated so much by his contemporaries
As all of chosen by Gods, Solomon Mykhoels was a complicated man, a man with many faces. His life was a difficult passing through victories and defeats during the years, when sincere faith in the coming of happy times and fear of every coming day combined quite naturally. Despite everything, Mykhoels was a creator! Dozens of brightest roles and performances, the creation of State Jewish Theatre, and an everyday hard work secured him the widest international respect.
We are very appreciated to all, who made our Festival possible. In our country, opposition between an Artist and the Authority had almost always ended not in the Artist’ favour. We believe, that this sad tradition had become a thing of the past forever. Another demonstration of our faith is the fact, that Solomon Mykhoels’ Moscow International Art Festival is holding on under the patronage of The President of the Russian Federation and Mayor of Moscow and participants of the Festival are the Stars of World culture, the Culture that is indivisible
