The Second
Moscow International Competition
of Jewish Folk Music
performers

The Musical Culture of Jews for a long time has been closely related with cultures of the other nations. The names of Jewish musicians, performers and composers such as Mendelssohn, Shenberg, Ravel, Gershvin, Kalman have been written to the Art's History by golden letters. Russia is one of the few countries in the world, which have made a valuable contribution to the development of the world musical culture and gave a good opportunity for the works of such Artists as Rubinstein, Stolyarsky, Ayer, Goldenweizer, Gorovits, Oistrakh, Cogan, Richter etc.
The folk genre - klezmer, which is famous from time out of mind, such as religion songs - cants and secular music is fond of listeners of all nationalities. This music, which is merry and pensive, naughty and wistful, won’t leave somebody indifferent.
The International Solomon Mykhoels Cultural Center and The Charity Foundation for Jewish Culture had become the initiators of The International competition of Jewish folk music performers in Moscow. The main tasks of the competition are to popularize the Jewish musical culture and to discover the genre of klezmer -the music of Ashkenazes and the music of Sephards, little known not only in Russia, but also abroad, for a broad audience.
We hope that The Moscow International competition of Jewish folk music performers will become a bright event in the various cultural life of Moscow and will help the strengthening of traditions of the international friendship
